A proposed development in Mississauga’s Streetsville neighbourhood would demolish a strip plaza that has long stood on an underutilized site in the heart of the historic village and develop in its place six mixed-use buildings containing significant housing and in addition, a public park, central plaza and market square.
City of Mississauga planning and development committee’s decision to reject a development application to add significant housing to the Port Credit neighbourhood could be an early indicator of unanticipated outcomes of Bill 109: More Homes for Everyone Act, 2022. While the legislation is intended to expedite the approval of development applications, the decision rendered at a May 29 committee meeting may suggest that in some cases, the legislation could have the opposite effect of what is intended.
